AI or human recruiter: chronicle of a tipping point

3 min

Could artificial intelligence recruit better than humans? A study of 70,000 job applications in the Philippines suggests it could: more offers, more job starts, less discrimination. But behind these appealing figures, real questions remain: the cultural context, the limited observation period, the nature of the jobs tested and candidate self-selection all suggest that this AI superiority is, for now, relative and partial. AI may standardise better, but it does not yet grasp nuance, nor the weak signals of a human conversation. The challenge for recruiters is therefore not to step aside, but to rethink their role: as guardians of meaning, connection and trust in a process that the machine merely puts in order.
