On July 13, 2022, the Confederation of SMEs published the results of its economic survey on the health of employment in SMEs.

More than 2000 managers were surveyed over a period of one month and several findings confirm the disappearance of employees that has been felt for several months.

The CPME, upon reviewing the results, describes "an unprecedented situation on the employment front".

On one hand, managers are experiencing recruitment difficulties (51%) due to the absence of candidates (74%) and the lack of skills (47%).

On the other hand, they face an inflation that reduces their margin and thus impacts their ability to increase salaries for employees who are looking elsewhere.

This is the second finding of this study, 1 in 4 managers is facing high turnover with 1 in 2 employees wanting to either change sectors or take more time for personal life. 1 in 3 employees leaves for a competitor for better conditions, while 16% choose to start their own business.

To retain employees, managers are massively increasing salaries. 2 out of 3 have raised salaries since the beginning of the year and almost as many (58%) plan to do so again by the end of the year. Recent bonus payments are also mentioned by 68% of managers and 36% offer profit sharing, participation, or employee savings plans.

Finally, the "employee dividend" does not currently garner enthusiasm with 71% of managers not in favor.
